The standard mileage rates for the use of a car, van, or pickup truck in 2015 are:
- 57.5 cents per mile for business miles driven, up 1.5 cents from 2014
- 23 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, down half a cent from 2014
- 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations, the same as in 2014 as set by law
Taxpayers can opt to claim deductions based on the actual costs of using their vehicle rather than using the standard mileage rates. Fleets of vehicles and taxpayers who claim accelerated depreciation, including Section 179 expense deduction, may not use the business standard mileage rate on those vehicles.
